Training daddy style - the search for new tarmac
So let's get this out of the way, I love running with my daughter whether it's pushing her along on a slow Sunday run while trying to get her to nap or a 5k parkrun race with Isla cheering on encouragement (or rather instructions to catch the next runner!) and pointing out doggies, ducks and other important sights to all around. However, on days like this it's a little more challenging. Isla woke up, well let's call it frustrated, and I needed to start my slow 8 minutes on - 2 minutes off training, so with her in our trusty BOB running buggy I set off... ...I did say 8+2 training didn't I?!? Well those parents out there won't be surprised that it took me about 20 minutes to get the first 8 minutes in. Among other things we stopped for a toy falling out, the inevitable cry of "daddy, I need a wee wee" and a few minutes having a heart to heart about whether we should stop for the swings and slide - I won in a split decision! We're very lucky in that we live a stone's throw from the River Thames and its miles of picturesque towpaths, as well as Richmond Park so running's a joy and we were soon down by the Thames with a beautiful day. The only problem was that, with Isla finally asleep, the most important thing on my mind was the search for smooth tarmac which was quite a bit harder to come by. Away from the river then and exploring areas near where we live that I have never seen before. Weaving in and out we found lots of nice looking pubs and parks which would be lovely except I have no clue how I might find them again. Maybe Isla will know?
Back home and Isla woke up smiling and declared "daddy, we has a very nice run didn't we". All worth it and has me looking forward to next weekend's daddy-daughter run. Who knows where it will take us
